Election Night (Boston)
A short three weeks of intensive pre-production led to this ambitious event in Copley Square in the heart of Boston, co-produced by Podium Arts Founder Joseph Finneran. Navigating the twists and turns of its local union and vendor community as well as a World Series victory parade passing through the event site two days prior, Election Night 2004 achieved all but one of its goals. Site preparation included a major clearing and securing of the Copley area, and a re-purposing of the Boston Public Library to support political, communications, talent and structural requirements -- the weight of massive press risers and large LED screens required underground structural steel to be added to support the street and front steps of the venue. In addition to a 9-camera broadcast pool, hundreds of video and still filing positions were created, as well as controlled audience areas for up to 30,000 people.
